AlphaBets Integrates Chainlink VRF To Help Determine Winners of Its NFT Game
We’re excited to announce that AlphaBets — an innovative NFT game that pits NFT communities against each other — has integrated Chainlink Verifiable Random Function (VRF) on Ethereum mainnet. By integrating the industry-leading decentralized oracle network, we now have access to a tamper-proof and auditable source of randomness needed to help fairly select winners for AlphaBets Featured Fights. Players can improve the odds of their community winning through an NFT staking mechanism, which is then combined with Chainlink VRF to help fairly select the winning team in an exciting manner.
AlphaBets provides a fun and engaging platform that brings NFT communities together in the spirit of competition. NFT owners sign an on-chain transaction to ‘vote’ for their NFT collection and help improve their teams’ chances of winning. Players can now leverage their NFTs as a meaningful ‘in-game asset’. AlphaBets helps unlock additional utility for idle NFT assets and provides a social yet competitive platform for the NFT community. On Sept 15th, AlphaBets conducted their first match on the Ethereum mainnet: Azuki vs. Mutant Ape Yacht Club — with Azuki winning by a 14 pt margin.
In order to provide fair and unbiased results for AlphaBets Featured Fights, we need access to a secure random number generator (RNG) that any user could independently audit. However, RNG solutions for smart contracts require several security considerations to prevent manipulation and ensure system integrity. For instance, RNG solutions derived from blockchain data like block hashes can be exploited by miners/validators, while off-chain RNG solutions derived from off-chain APIs are opaque and don’t provide users with definitive proof about the integrity of the process.
After reviewing various solutions, we selected Chainlink VRF because it’s based on cutting-edge academic research, supported by a time-tested oracle network, and secured through the generation and on-chain verification of cryptographic proofs that prove the integrity of each random number supplied to smart contracts.
Chainlink VRF works by combining block data that is still unknown when the request is made with the oracle node’s pre-committed private key to generate both a random number and a cryptographic proof. The AlphaBets smart contract will only accept the random number input if it has a valid cryptographic proof, and the cryptographic proof can only be generated if the VRF process is tamper-proof. This provides our users with automated and verifiable assurances directly on-chain that the randomness used in the winner selection function is provably fair and was not tampered with by the oracle, outside entities, or the AlphaBets team.
Aside from integrating Chainlink VRF to help power our winner-selection process, AlphaBets has plans for additional integrations of Chainlink VRF as we expand our platform features, although we are currently not in a position to disclose further details around these improvements.
“We selected Chainlink VRF because it is the most dependable solution available. No other RNG solution comes close in terms of integrity, efficiency, transparency, and reliability. Players can rest assured that all results on AlphaBets are underpinned by a tamper-proof source of randomness.” — AlphaBets Team
About Chainlink
Chainlink is the industry standard for building, accessing, and selling oracle services needed to power hybrid smart contracts on any blockchain. Chainlink oracle networks provide smart contracts with a way to reliably connect to any external API and leverage secure off-chain computations for enabling feature-rich applications. Chainlink currently secures tens of billions of dollars across DeFi, insurance, gaming, and other major industries, and offers global enterprises and leading data providers a universal gateway to all blockchains.

About AlphaBets
AlphaBets stacks NFT collections against each other in an on-chain, 1v1 staking battle to uncover who has the most ALPHA community. Participating NFT projects are pre-selected to join our Featured Fight cards. Players help them win either as NFT stakers or voters using ETH or SOL. Staking is non-custodial, giving NFT owners full control over their digital assets which never leave their wallets. Unlock further utility and engagement from NFTs with AlphaBets.
